Wholesale More Info About Aloha Aloha Shirt Patterns

Our sarongs were designed around the popular Aloha Shirt Patterns. These shirts were devised in the early 1930s by a Chinese merchant by the name of Ellery Chun. Chun was the owner of King-Smith Clothiers and Dry Goods, a store in popular Waikiki. Ellery Chun began sewing brightly colored shirts for the tourists out of old kimono fabrics he had leftover in stock. It was later that The Honolulu Advertiser newspaper a popular newspaper of Hawaii coined the term Aloha shirt to describe Chun's fashionable and popular creation. Chun later trademarked the name.

In an effort to grow his business Chun got a hold of the Honolulu advertiser and published first Aloha Shirt ad on June 28th 1935. The shirts were whipped up by local residents, in particular surfers. Tourists swarmed like bees to Chun's store and bought up every design he had! Other businesses caught on to its popularity and Hawaiian Aloha Shirts began being manufactured in masses. Seventy odd years later major designer labels have been made and shirts continue to be popular to pop up all over the islands. You can rest assured that almost every tourist that ever visits the islands will grab themselves or family member an Aloha Shirt as the tradition continues.

The popularity of this product boomed in the United States after World War II as major celebrities sported the Hawaiian wear. President Harry S. Truman wore these colorful island shirts regularly during his tenure in the White House and in retirement. John Wayne and Duke Kahanamoku endorsed major designer labels, while Elvis Presley, Jimmy Buffett, Bing Crosby, Richard Lewis, Arthur Godfrey, Johnny Weissmuller, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Dean Payne, and Jay-Z entertained while wearing them.
